Overview
In this interview Albie tells of his early life and education at Gummies Bush/Wild Bush; his employment history at the Dairy Factory and later on the Pest Board. He gives detailed descriptions of methods used for the eradication of rabbits. Albie went to war and tells of his involvement and experiences. He was a prisoner of war for two years. In 1975 he and his wife joined the Prisoner Of War Association tour through Europe.

Roland talks of his family history and settlement at Bayswater on their 1000 acre farm called Studleigh. He looks at the use of draft horses on the farm, the depression years, the growing and processing of linen flax for the war effort. After the war the crops changed to wheat, barley, and oats. Mattie’s family lived at Hakataramea until getting a balloted farm at Beaumont around 1915. Beaumont was a thriving community until the railway closed. Grocery, butchery and bakery deliveries were once a week.
